Knowing our Rights / Conociendo nuestros Derechos Workshop Facilitator Training

Thurdsay, November 1
7:00 -- 9:00 pm
Room 5229

This training will give law students the basic knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate "Knowing our Rights / Conociendo nuestros Derechos" workshops in the Madison-area community. It is a community-based immigrants' rights workshop facilitated by law student representatives of the National Lawyers Guild Immigration Project and the Latino/a Law Students Association, and is interactive and bilingual (English - Spanish).

Topics covered include:

* Rights at home
* Rights at work
* Rights on the street (on foot or in a car)
* Rights with relation to protest
* Rights in detention
* .....more.....

The aim of the workshop is to empower immigrants or interested parties with information about immigrants' rights, so we avoid lecturing or "leading" as much as possible. Facilitators guide workshops, but the majority of acting and talking done by participants, if possible. That guidance, then, includes framing of the workshop, answering questions, and filling in gaps of information where necessary. Facilitators will also be expected to help plan/schedule workshops in the community.

The workshops are typically completely free and open to the public. Training is also free and open to all law students (regardless of student org affiliations).
